Welcome to Salt River
Devco!
Throughout history,
people have often settled along rivers as many of the great cities of Europe attest. In the southwest region of the United States,
around 300 B.C., the ancestors of the Pima people, the Huhu-kam
(Hohokam), settled near a river that flowed
through the desert. Over time, these people harnessed the river by
hand-digging an elaborate network of canals. The canals allowed the Huhu-kam to build a network of communities in what is
now central Arizona
until about 1200 AD. This network enabled each community to thrive and
prosper, supported by a web of cooperative and innovative sustainable
economies.
More than 8 centuries later, Salt River Devco continues the tradition by
building a new network to support communities, communication, connections,
partnerships, and enterprises. To create this sustainable web, Salt River
Devco is charged with managing assets, developing land and projects, to
benefit the people of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and
provide opportunities for the entire metropolitan area.
